Outside drains

What is a rodding eye?

A rodding eye is a capped access point at ground level giving direct entry into a drain run for rods, jetting hoses and survey cameras. It is fitted where a full inspection chamber is not practical, typically at the head of a run or at a change of direction.

Keeping rodding eyes accessible matters. They are frequently paved or turfed over during landscaping, which means an engineer has to work from further away and the job takes longer.

The cap should be sealed. A missing or broken rodding eye cap is a common rat entry point and lets surface debris into the foul system.

If you have a run that blocks regularly with no access point, fitting a rodding eye makes future clearance far quicker.
