Yes. A flexible push-rod camera can be fed through a WC pan into the soil pipe where no external access exists, though surveying from a manhole or rodding eye gives better results. The camera is disinfected between jobs and does not damage the pan.
Surveying through a WC is common in flats and terraces where there are no accessible chambers. The trap restricts the camera size, so image quality and reach are more limited than an external survey.
Where an external chamber or rodding eye exists, always use it — the camera travels further, sees more, and the sonde can be tracked from the surface.
Small-diameter cameras can also be fed through basin and sink wastes to inspect internal pipework.
