Seasonal drainage — the year in blocked drains
Which drainage problems happen in which season, and how to get ahead of them.
Spring — the roots wake up
Warmer soil temperatures activate root growth. Root ingress into drains accelerates rapidly from March through May. Book a CCTV survey now if you've had recurring blockages the previous year.
Summer — barbecues, holidays and grease
Kitchen drains take a hammering. Extra guests, more cooking, more grease. Clean the trap in your kitchen sink monthly and don't let hot fat go down the drain.
Autumn — the leaves come down
Leaves fall, clog gullies and cause surface flooding when the first heavy rain arrives. Clean every gully on the property in October and again in December.
Winter — frost, ice and holiday food waste
Cold weather turns kitchen fats solid the moment they hit the drain. Christmas cooking is the peak season for kitchen blockages — plan ahead.
