A 100mm foul drain should typically fall at 1 in 40 to 1 in 80, and a 150mm drain at around 1 in 150, subject to the flow it carries. Too shallow and solids settle; too steep and water outruns the solids, leaving them behind.
The counter-intuitive part is that a drain can be too steep. Self-cleansing velocity depends on liquid carrying solids along — if the water races ahead, the solids are stranded and build up.
Poorly graded runs from DIY extensions are a very common cause of recurring blockages in otherwise sound drainage.
Correcting gradient means excavating and re-laying that section; there is no lining fix for a fall problem.
