Blockages

Can I use a pressure washer to unblock a drain?

A domestic pressure washer with a drain-cleaning lance attachment can clear light silt in a short gully run, but it lacks the pressure and flow to shift compacted fat, scale or roots, and used carelessly it can force water back into the property or damage old pipework.

Domestic machines run at roughly a tenth of the flow of a professional jetter, and flow matters as much as pressure for carrying debris away.

The main risk is direction: pushing water into a blocked run with nowhere to go sends it back up the nearest opening, which may be indoors.

For a gully or a short surface water run it can be useful. For a foul blockage, it is not the right tool.
